The Process

01

Slab Selection

We source figured hardwoods from sustainable mills. Every slab is inspected for grain, figuring, and structural integrity before it enters the shop.

02

Design & Drawing

Carving patterns are drawn by hand on paper, then transferred directly to the wood. No CNC. Every line is a decision.

03

Hand Carving

Using traditional gouges and chisels, our carvers work the relief by hand. A single dining table apron takes 60–80 hours of carving time.

04

Finishing

We use hand-rubbed oil and wax finishes that feed the wood and age beautifully. No lacquer. No film. Just wood and oil.

About the Studio

"We don't make furniture. We make the thing you'll still have in forty years."

Wood & Steel was founded on a single conviction: that the objects we live with should be worth keeping. Not because they are expensive, but because they were made by someone who cared — who spent the hours, who made the decisions, who signed their name to the work.

Every commission is a collaboration. We work directly with clients from the first sketch to the final installation. No middlemen. No showroom. No catalogue. Just the conversation between what you need and what we can build.

Our studio is in the American South. Our materials come from sustainable sources. Our methods are old. Our standards are not.
